And there are two sides to that story. My father was in the Pacific on a U.S. ship that was preparing to be part of the invasion of Japan. He and his crew, as I'm sure all U.S. servicemen in that theater were, were extremely apprehensive about an invasion. When Truman (not Oppenheimer, for god's sake) ordered the dropping of the bombs, my father and his crewmates were relieved. My father always appreciated Truman for that decision. (For the record, I'm not applauding the bombings, just pointing out there are differing views. Any truthful depiction of the end of the war would need to present both.)
