Anyone looking for a Roam Research alternative should take a look at Legend App (you possibly remember it by its previous name, moo.do):
It's a pretty ingenious outlining style app. Its possible advantages over Roam:
- Offline first, so your work is on your computers and devices
- Less costly
- iOS app
- It allows you to set up workspaces (called boards) with multipe panes open.
- Create as many documents as you need (not locked into just three, as in Roam)
Two things Legend does not do that Roam does are unreferenced backlinks, and daily notes. The latter is what I miss the most.
Not trying to convince anyone to switch. I am a big believer in "stick with what works for you." Just trying to mention a usually overlooked alternative.
