Daylight Savings Time Sucks!
Daylight Savings Time rolled in last night and I wasn’t even aware it was happening. Yes, I knew it was coming up, but I didn’t hear a word about it, and I was listening to public radio in the car! Not a peep about it. So I assumed it was some Sunday morning later in the month. But when I looked at the clock this morning while still in bed, I saw that it was 6:00 am and it was dark outside.
This, of course, is what I dislike about this useless edict: stripping the morning of an hour of daylight is discrimination against early risers.
Only now, an hour later, is it beginning to be bright enough outside for activity unaided by artificial light. I will already be at work by this time tomorrow. I will have passed kids waiting in the dark for their school buses.
I’ve heard talk of ending the clock shift, but from my understanding, they’ll keep it at DST, thus permanently robbing us of morning daylight. Clock time is clearly arbitrary, so why don’t they at least split the difference, returning a half hour to the morning?
Or they could just do away 1:00 pm. Go from 12:00 pm directly to 2:00 pm. That way the time at both ends of the day will have their pound of daylight flesh. Crazy? No crazier than shifting the clock around as if we can adjust the rotation of the planet.
