I am what I would call a quasi-professional writer, in that writing is a big part of what I've been paid for the past 30 years, but it hasn't been the main focus of my work. I mention this only so I can add some validity to this comment: Writing is fun, until you have a deadline. Then it can be very difficult. More difficult than being a lawyer (I imagine), because the law is somewhat black and white.* Writing is a process that demands both diligence and creativity.
*I don't mean to pick on lawyers, who do provide an important service that takes a sweeping knowledge of statutes and advanced critical thinking skills.
