I would recommend folks try the Mike Bowditch series by Paul Doiron. Bowditch is a Maine game warden. The stories are always engaging, the mysteries intriguing. You should definitely read them from the start, however, because Bowditch's life and career evolve. The first book is called The Poacher's Son.
