Thank you for the background on Steve McQueen's military service. I wasn't aware of that. He is one of my all-time favorite actors. One of his lesser known films was the WWII drama "Hell is for Heroes." It is an excellent movie, except that (SPOILER ALERT), the filmmakers ran out of money and ended the story with a forlorn hope style attack on a fortified German position. The cast is rather eclectic, featuring Fess Parker, James Coburn and Bob Newhart. But it works.
