Thank you for the thoughtful and comprehensive article. I am not the Bear fan you are, though I appreciate its elegance and stability. I don't like to rely on tags alone for organizing notes. This is one reason I use Notejoy. It looks a lot like Bear, but allows for nested folders as well as nested tags. I am stuck with Windows as my office computer, while using Apple's ecosystem for my personal computing. With apps for Windows, Mac and iOS, as well as a cloud app, Notejoy is available to me anywhere. Add end to end encryption. Notejoy is more expensive than Bear, and it is built primarily for collaboration, but it has a solo plan for people like me. And no, I don't work for Notejoy or have any affiliation with them whatsoever.
