Your article resonates with me. I think this is a lot about what some people call "friction" in taking notes. Complex systems = friction. Sooner or later, the friction results in a short cut or ignoring the system. Then the system fails. I've found this to be true. Some people have claimed that note-taking in Roam Research or Obsidian is "frictionless." Maybe for them, but not for me.

I am surprised no one has developed a digital bullet journal system that uses algorithms to identify what each bulleted item is -- note, event, task -- and automatically applies the visual cue. That feels like it would be an ideal system to me.
